Armistice Day In Dungarvan – Official Report

To the editor of ‘The Observer’
With reference to armistice day in Dungarvan the following are the actual facts of the case:-

By mutual desire the great majority of people closed their houses at 10.45. Shortly after 11 the military appeared in the streets to remove a Sinn Fein flag and prevailed upon two young men to assist them. There was at no time any suggestion of knocking these men about nor was any force used. The flag was removed by the military, as the young men were unable to climb the tower. Neither of these men were arrested. Later on two other civilians assisted the military to replace the Union Jack again with entire absence of threats etc.
