1. Introduction

In December 1895, the Moresby, a merchant ship was sailing from Cardiff to Pisagua in South America carrying a cargo of 1,778 tons of coal. However during the voyage the the ship ran into rough weather and both the Moresby and another vessel, the 'Mary Sinclair' were forced into Dungarvan Bay. At this point, Moresby and its passengers were forced to abandon ship, resulting in the loss of life. What follows, is an incomplete collection of photographs, crew members and passengers are only listed if a corresponding photograph exists. A full account of the tragedy is also available online.
